LibertyStream Infrastructure Partners is advancing one of North America’s first commercial lithium-carbonate operations sourced from oilfield brine, using a low-capex, modular “bolt-on” system that plugs directly into existing hydrocarbon infrastructure. After scaling field operations to 10,000 bbl/day and processing more than 250,000 barrels, the company is now commissioning its Texas refining unit to begin producing lithium carbonate in late 2025, supported by state grants, a major Permian operator investment, and newly added industry veterans from Albemarle and leading water-technology firms.
The investment appeal lies in LibertyStream’s ability to grow in 1,000-ton LCE increments at roughly US$20M per module, far below traditional lithium-project costs, enabling rapid paybacks and strong JV potential with midstream water-handling operators. With early customer validation, including an MOU with Packet Digital for U.S.-sourced lithium carbonate for military and industrial batteries, plus meaningful near-term catalysts, LibertyStream offers a uniquely asymmetric risk-reward as it transitions from pilot results to first commercial production.
